Creating Abundance in Our Schools

            Our purpose at Chiropractic USA Carmichael is to create radiant health in our community and to empower future generations. We have noticed with continued budget cuts in California many important health services have been eliminated. In previous years school nurses were delegated to complete basic scoliosis evaluations to screen for potential spinal health problems. However in present day these services no longer exist in our state schools. This loss will affect the health of our children greatly as early detection of scoliosis is critical in the reduction and correction of this serious spinal condition.

            With the lack of support and funding clearly seen, Chiropractic USA in conjunction with local chiropractic leaders have decided to step up to fill this crucial void. An alliance has been created with the schools in Sacramento. The outcome is to complete a pilot study with the intention that this powerful program can be duplicated throughout the state. The school response so far has been community changing, and the screenings have shown to be more accurate and in-depth than any other prior services offered. We have created a powerful team of doctors, principals, school nurses, administrators, teachers, and volunteers who all donate their time, money and resources for the goal of changing the health of our community children. The chiropractors on the True Wellness Team donate time away from their personal offices, and even pay their own staff to assist in screenings. To be on this True Wellness Team each doctor has to also agree to perform any further evaluations or treatments at no expense to the students in a financial need is present.

            Recently the True Wellness Team completed a screening at Cordova Meadows Elementary. While our team was at this school to donate our time, we as the True Wellness Team feel as though we got the greatest outcome from the event, an appreciation for community support. We had the opportunity to meet Principal Joseph Piazza during a tour of the school.  Mr. Piazza is an inspiring example of a leader creating abundance in our local schools. When our team arrived to perform our scoliosis screening on over 60 children we immediately witnessed ALL of the students stop to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Our team was so impressed, to add to it after the Pledge of Allegiance ALL of the students immediately joined together around the flag to share what they were most "grateful" for. What a way to begin the day! We stood there in awe at this amazing gathering of children, Mr. Piazza explained that this is the way each school day begins... with gratitude.   As the Principal walked us through our tour he explained that 85 % of the students at this school are below the poverty level and their families truly struggle to survive. According to the Principal this group of children has more ethnic and religious diversity than any other school in the district and possibly the state.

            Our school tour was unlike any other and showed a true example of creating community abundance by the constant support of parents, local businesses, volunteers, and proactive planning. Cordova Meadows Elementary is full of life shown through the student garden and playground port all which couldn’t exist without community support! Many outside companies have also donated to the school creating special areas for the kids such as a state of the art computer lab, music room with over 30 new keyboards, a full gym and a family resource center to create a stronger family connection.  We are grateful for the opportunity to have met Mr. Piazza and witnessed this school’s compassion. Our True Wellness Team can’t remember a time that we felt so inspired by our future generation’s ability to truly show a sense of love and gratitude for each other.

            Cordova Meadows Elementary is a shining example of the leadership and support we believe can turn the tides of education back to that of VITALIZED learning. Our True Wellness Team has completed numerous school scoliosis screenings this past year, and we continue our mission everyday with the goal of healthcare scoliosis screenings to be in ALL California schools. It truly gives our team greater sense of hope when we see leaders like Mr. Piazza going beyond expectations to impact the lives of each child. I am truly excited to be a part of this TEAM and to create overwhelming abundance in our schools future generations.
