For over
thirty years I have been passionately pursuing peak performance principles to
live a truly VITALIZED life. Say that 3 times real fast!
Throughout this time I have come to believe that the # 1 thing
that holds people back from reaching their highest and best self is the
limiting beliefs we hold onto. A phrase I have found to be true over years of
working with the community is: “whether you think you CAN or CAN’T you’re right!”
Surrounding a campfire we all listened to the personal stories of how LIFE 101 helped each person break through strong limiting beliefs, this was by far my favorite part of the weekend. Even the strongest men of the group had a lot of fear when it came to climbing a 60 foot tree, jumping off a ledge, and touching their intended target. It was very inspirational to see the bonding of the students and the evolution of single person into one unified team. The LOVE and RESPECT we all shared by the end of the weekend was truly palpable.
The question that
was used in Life 101 to break through old limiting beliefs:
"If I knew
I couldn't fail what would I do?
Just the simple action of asking this question immediately turned
on the imagination and creativity in everyone’s
brains that participated. The difficulty I have found many people are faced
with is the limited beliefs we have ingrained in our own brain give us reasons/excuses
why we can’t do it! One of the greatest
team events of the weekend was the action of getting the entire team of students
and facilitators over a 15 foot wall with no ropes or ladders. The only tools
that could be used were teamwork and team members’
assistance to help scale the wall. As we were getting down to the
last few students even the Camp “MOM” who had both knees replaced was able to scale the wall
with the help of her team mates. The
power of a supportive team is SO important to help achieve the “impossible”
and give new perspective to what is truly possible.
Whatever
stage in life you may be, the act of breaking through old limiting beliefs can
stretch the boundaries of YOUR imagination.
Think
about it? What would have happened if Edison would have given up on developing
the light bulb after 10,000 failed attempts?
Trust the innate thoughts and ideas that come to you. The result is the emergence of YOUR highest and strongest self and can give you true direction and purpose.
